Taiao | Nature Action Videos Contribution – Terms and Conditions

The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa) has created Taiao | Nature Action Videos upload facility so you and your community group can easily contribute videos to Te Papa. If you do not agree with all of the terms and conditions including the copyright licence, please do not upload your video.

Privacy: Information about you that You Provide us

We collection information you provide directly to use. For example, we collect contact information when you upload videos using Te Papa’s upload tool.

The personal contact information you supply to us will be used only to communicate with you. Under no circumstances will this personal contact information be made available to other organisations or parties.

Privacy: Information about others that You Provide us

We are encouraging you to film one or two members of your group, doing what they love. You agree that you have talked to the people you film and they know and have agreed that the video will be made available to Te Papa and also openly licensed for reuse by Te Papa and others.

If the members of your group that you film are under 18 years of age, you will need to check with their parent or guardian and make sure the parent or guardian agrees that the video will be make available to Te Papa and also openly licensed for reuse by Te Papa and others.

What is a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) Copyright Licence?

A Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) copyright licence allows users of the video to share, use, edit, build upon, remix with other content, and/or synchronise the video with sound for any purpose. The copyright in the video continues to be owned by you but once you agree to this copyright licence it cannot be revoked. By agreeing to this copyright licence you are protecting the people who use or distribute this video from concerns of copyright infringement as long as users abide by the conditions that are specified in the licence. The conditions are that you must be credited with an attribution whenever the video is used, and the Creative Commons licence must travel with the video wherever the video is used. Why do I need to agree to a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) Copyright Licence?

This licence permits us to work with the videos to create what we need for our exhibition and also allows you to use your video for your own purposes. We know that we want to use this video in the Nature exhibition space, in Te Papa’s website and Te Papa’s social media platforms but we may want to use the video elsewhere in ways we can’t anticipate now. A Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) copyright licence gives us flexibility to respond quickly to possible changes in our plan. If you do not agree to this licence please do not upload your video.

Te Papa will credit the video using an attribution format similar to:

  • Video title, date by Contributor name, organisation. CC BY 4.0

CONTRIBUTOR'S AGREEMENT

In general terms, this agreement is to make sure that


  1. This agreement applies to all video that you upload via Te Papa’s Taiao | Nature Action Videos upload facility.
  2. In this agreement ‘I’ refers to the uploader of the content and to the person who agrees to this licence agreement. The person who uploads and the person who agrees must be the same person. In this licence agreement that person is also called the Contributor.
  3. In this agreement the word ‘Content’ refers to all content which the Contributor uploads using Te Papa’s upload facility either on the day they agree to this agreement or later.
  4. I confirm that I own the copyright in (or that I am the authorised agent for the owner of) the Content
  5. I understand and agree that the Content will be stored in Te Papa’s digital asset management system and may be used for the wider purposes of Te Papa including, but not limited to, promotion in advertising or marketing.
  6. I understand that copyright ownership in the Content remains, at all times, with me.
  7. I understand and agree that the Content is licensed using a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) 4.0 copyright licence.
  8. I agree that I have talked to the people I videoed and they know and have agreed that the video will be made available to Te Papa and also openly licensed using a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence allowing reuse by Te Papa and others.
  9. I warrant that I have the authority and right to enter into the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 copyright licence. I indemnify Te Papa against any breach by me of this agreement, including these warranties.
  10. I understand and accept that under the New Zealand Crown Entities Act 2004 and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Act 1992, Te Papa is a not-for-profit organisation.
